You will need the Confirmation of Residence to open a banking account and apply for an appointment at the Foreigners Department for a Residence Permit. Even if you move to temporary accommodation first, you need to ask the property owner for the document called “Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung”. An additional number of documents will be needed depending on your personal life situation, i.e. are you married or divorced, do you have children, is your child adopted, and so on. You can get your Confirmation of Residence at your local Citizens’ Registration Office. Some of these offices require appointments, others don’t. You need to know that and which documents to prepare in advance.
