When moving within Germany, you need to re-register your address of residence, otherwise, you could pay a fine of up to 500€. To avoid the penalty you must re-register at the Residents’ Registration Office within 14 days. The date on the housing provider confirmation ( Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung ) which states the date of moving in is the determining factor. A rental contract is not required. You do not need to de-register your address at your previous registration office, as they match all data electronically. If you decide to leave Germany permanently, you have to deregister officially at the Registration office. Be the part of law and order.
