You can drive in Germany with your national drivers’ license for up to 6 months. However, if you stay for only 12 months, and can prove it, you can keep on using your national license for that period. To exchange your national license you need among other documents a Residence Permit, an official translation of the national drivers’ license, the license, and the DMV application. If tests are required, you will need a driving school, take driving lessons, attend the first aid course, pass a medical eyes examination and pass theoretical and/ or practical tests. Also, it is important to know that a driver’s license exchange can be made only after 4 months of residence in Germany. This makes the process more expensive and time-consuming. Would you like to know if you have to do the tests or not?
